THE employees of Mövenpick Resort and Spa Cebu, through a salary deduction option instituted by the human resources department, pooled in a total of P55,950 as aid to the victims of tropical storm Sendong in Mindanao.
The contributions of the resort’s staff were donated through the GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc. The foundation intends to use the funds for the construction of a GMA Kapuso Village in Sendong-ravaged Iligan.

Showing that when helping fellow Filipinos, one is neither a “Kapamilya” nor a “Kapuso,” Mövenpick also donated a truckload of relief goods through the ABS-CBN Foundation before the New Year. These are 40 boxes filled with assorted blankets, towels and linens donated by the housekeeping department and 10 boxes from the employees’ contributions of canned goods, clothes, and other dried goods.
Meanwhile, Airphil Express also came to the aid of Sendong victims by airlifting a total of 65 tons of water, clothes and food as part of relief efforts for the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.
The relief goods were transported free of charge, and were coordinated through the company’s 24/7 domestic cargo office on Domestic Road, Pasay City.
Sendong, considered as the deadliest cyclone to have hit the country in years, left over 600 people dead and hundreds more still missing.
It has so moved the company that they have since offered to give assistance in terms of free shipping to non-government organizations and other organizations who still wish to send goods and donations to the typhoon-affected areas.
