A TOTAL of 300 houses will be built in Cagayan de Oro (CDO) in Mindanao and in Dasmariñas, Cavite through a joint project of SM Prime Holdings Inc. and Gawad Kalinga (GK).
The SM and GK recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the project.
There will be 200 homes to be built in CDO as part of SM’s efforts for the rehabilitation of the victims of typhoon Sendong that hit the area last December.
Another 100 homes are earmarked for Dasmariñas in a continuous effort to empower communities towards self-reliance and sustainability.
These GK Villages will serve as physical platforms in putting together model communities guided by GK’s development model.
The partnership will not only build homes, but also highlight programs on infrastructure, community building, health, food sufficiency, child and youth development, the environment and social entrepreneurship.
These will be the second and third SM-GK villages in the joint partnership.
The first SM-GK Village was built in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City in time for the celebration of SM City North Edsa’s 25th Anniversary.
SM Prime Holdings president Hans Sy and GK executive director Jose Luis Oquiñena formalized the partnership with the MOA signing at the SM Prime Corporate Offices in the Mall of Asia complex.
SM Supermalls president Annie Garcia, vice president for operations Glenn Ang, SM Prime vice president Ryan San Juan, GK partnerships manager Tito Cajulis and GK executive assistant Anela Reyes joined them in the event.
