IN TIME for the school opening this month, the Sta. Cruz Elementary School in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Liloan, Cebu benefited from the Brigada Eskwela program of the Visayan Electric Company (Veco).
A total of 28 Veco Kaibigans led by billing and collection manager Sandro Aboitiz conducted the repainting and repair of the school building.
A day off at work for the employees was spent repairing and repainting the four-classroom building, plus a cleanup of the school’s surroundings.
The activity was made in support of the Brigada Eskwela campaign of the Department of Education.
Together with the Aboitiz Foundation Inc., Veco intends to implement more efficient and effective ways of giving back to the community, with focus on education, enterprise development, primary health and child care.
The power utility firm, on the other hand, encouraged its beneficiaries to help in its “Bantay Linya” program, a campaign against theft and pilferage of power lines.
For the past three years, Veco was able to construct nine school buildings, with a total of 22 classrooms; rewired 12 public elementary and high schools; and donated 315 pieces of school furniture made from scrap woods.
Last year, Veco held its Brigada Eskwela in Tayud Consolacion Elementary School, Consolacion town, Cebu.
