AS THEY celebrate their 50th year, the Rotary Club of Cebu West inducted their 50th president last June 11.

Club president Alvin Tan hopes to follow in the footsteps of the club’s past presidents by coming up with relevant projects.

The club has distributed books to schools, conducted medical missions, donated a fire engine to the Cebu Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade and repainted the waiting shed outside the Cebu Normal University.

Tan assured that his will be a busy term, as he intended to continue supporting the club’s chosen beneficiaries, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

They will continue to distribute computer units to the DSWD in Labangon and donate more books to other beneficiaries.

The RC Cebu West is the second oldest Rotary Club in Cebu and has the second highest number of members.

Tan said he felt honored to be serving the organization, adding that there are many in their ranks that are eligible for the position.

With 44 members, RC Cebu West has become one of the biggest clubs in the district. It has also become a 100 percent annual programs fund-giving club.

In recent years, the club has fine-tuned its techniques and has learned how to partner with other organizations. This way, the club has been able to improve their capacity to undertake bigger projects. It has fully understood the internationality of Rotary so that it has secured foreign funding for some of its projects through the WCS and matching grants programs of Rotary.

RC Cebu West club bulletin the “Horizon” has been awarded as outstanding bulletin a number of times.

It has been awarded as the most outstanding club in District 3860 and its club past presidents, Wilton Uykingtian and Romy Dy Pico, were accorded the most outstanding club president for the year.

Tan runs the family business, the Cebu Familia House, which sells modesty and tailoring supplies on Colon St. He and his wife Jane raise two daughters and a son.
