IN SUPPORT of the Philippines National Greening Program (NGP) of President Benigno Aquino III, NKC Manufacturing Philippines Corp. hosted the planting of 5,000 assorted fruit and forest trees in Sitio Catives I, Barangay Guba, Cebu City.
NKC, a Japanese firm inside Mactan Economic Zone 2, Basak, Lapu-lapu City, organized the activity in partnership with the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines Inc. (PCAPI) 7, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Cebu City Agriculture Office and the Kapunongan sa mga Banikanhong Mag-uuma Alang sa Ekonomekanhong Kalambuan.
More than 50 employees, Japanese and Filipinos, volunteered in the tree-planting headed by NKC management representatives, namely, Engr. Emylou Cadalzo, assistant production manager and Engr. Edmond Ouano, environment, health and safety officer.
The site in Barangay Guba will be developed by the Cebu City Government into a nature park.
A composting facility will also be set up in the area. This way, biodegradable wastes will then be composted at the site instead of being dumped in the city’s garbage landfill.
As a non-stock, non-profit and non-government environmental organization, PCAPI 7 helps companies in planting trees required for its environmental compliance certificates.
For more information, one may call PCAPI 7 at (032) 233-3604.
