Fida convention set in Cebu

THE Federacion Internacional de Abogadas (Fida) Philippine Branch Inc., an international organization of women in the legal profession, will host the Fida regional convention for Asia to be held at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, Cebu City on Oct. 3 to 5.
The event, with the theme “The Role of Women Lawyers in Global Issues,” will be attended by Fida lawyers from different parts of the world.
During this occasion, the executive council of Fida International, headed by its president Shella Anish, will also convene.
Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 3 at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. The business sessions will be conducted on Oct. 4 and 5, with the topics to be discussed as follows:
l Human trafficking by Stella M. Ugboma, Nigeria-parliamentarian and immediate past president of Fida International;
l Basis of the problem and rights beginning from the family by Giovanna Chiara, Italy-director, Fida International;
l Taiwan women lawyers in the forefront of preventing violence against women and children by Hosiu-Fan-Chen, Taiwan-director, Fida International;
l Europe and Italy: Positive Legislation and Experience to Defeat Violence against Women and Children by Vanadia Silvana, Italy-regional vice president, Fida International;
l Human Rights-Equal Rights Criminal Justice System by Jeeva Niriella of Sri Lanka and faculty of law at the University of Law, Colombo;
l Cybersex, cyber-pornography and other cyber crimes by Eric D. Mcloughlin, acting attaché of the United States of America (USA) immigration and customs and Leonard Mancuso, asst. attaché of the USA immigration and customs; and
l Women and the Environment by Portia Hormachuelos, former Court of Appeals Justice; Bhaskara Lakshmi, country vice president (India), former president of All India Federation of Women.
The opening ceremonies will be held on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the ballroom of the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.
Attire for the opening ceremonies will be the delegates’ national costume.
The fellowship night, sponsored by the Office of the Governor of Cebu, will be held at the social hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol at 7 p.m. This will be attended by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
Delegates are requested to come in a cocktail dress.
The delegates will be treated to a tour, sampling of native delicacies and entertainment by the Office of the Governor of Cebu on Oct. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
This will include a visit to the Cebu dancing inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center and the Museo sa Sugbo.
There are also optional tours available on Oct. 3 and 6. The tours include Cebu City
tour, Bohol tour and island hopping adventure.
The registration fee for the three-day convention is P4,000.
