USC-GHS ‘87 holds outreach program, gets recognition

THE University of San Carlos (USC) Girls High School Batch ’87 was awarded with a certificate of appreciation by the USC south campus administration after its medical mission and feeding program held at the school campus last July 21.

The whole-day activity, which was in service of the school’s adopted families in Sitio Purras, Sambag I in Cebu City, was organized as a thanksgiving celebration of the batch’s silver jubilee.

The program started with a thanksgiving mass celebrated by Fr. Louie Punzalan, with the offering of prayers by the batch’s kids led by Erickelle Marie Frances Ganas.

The mass was facilitated by Elaine Shara Pozon and Rose Ypil Tio.

All the eight rooms at the first level of the school were filled up by the beneficiaries from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A day after the holding of the medical mission and feeding program, a fellowship night of Batch ’87 was held at the Laguna Garden Café, attended by 20 high school teachers, with Sheila Bacus Balantucas as the main coordinator.

The group thanked Mayor Michael Rama for his presence in the event.

The Batch ‘87 officers are May Theresa Abarquez, president; Rita Costales dela Calzada, vice president; Charmaigne Magbiray, secretary; Lilibeth Oronce Valmoria, treasurer; and Ann Pantinople Montuya, press relations officer.

The core group members are Lydia Bangayan Lui, Magbiray, Montuya, Valmoria, Tio,
Pozon, Balantucas, Milet Chan dela Cruz, Joyce Tac-an Ramos, Dr. Stephanie Tiro Sitoy, Dr. Maria Elinor Delfino Ganas, while the medical mission committee members are Dr. Anna Liza Alquizalas Gonzales (adult center), Dr. Sitoy (pedia center), Tio (redemption center), May Rose Perez Son (communications and advertisement), and Pozon and Lydia Bangayan Liu (feeding program).

The volunteer doctors were Dr. Roselyn Uy-Villa, Dr. Fe Pardillo, Dr. Grace Rabago, while the volunteer nurses were Bella Faye Tan and Jane Vestil Feraren.

The donated medicines used in the medical mission came from Sen. Manny Villar and his wife Cynthia, Rep. Angelo Palmones, Jun Perez of DyAB Cebu; Aces Eye Referral Clinic, Cebu Velez General Hospital Department of Pphthalmology team headed by Dr. Pamela Tarongoy and Dr. Loren Ong, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Department of ear, nose and throat composed of Dr. James Ferraren, Dr. Lot Gonzales and Dr. Wilfredo Ypil.
