THE International Confederation of Christian Family Movements (ICCFM) will hold its 9th Continental Asia conference on Oct. 25 to 28 at the Betania Retreat House in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City.
The event, with the theme “Mission of Asian Christian Families in a Globalized Society,” was announced recently by CFM Philippines president Mario and Inday Nery.
The members led by ICCFM Asia president Cyril and Carmen D’Sousa of India hope to find ways on how Christian families and family organizations/movements in Asia can spread the gospel message in globalized society to strengthen the faith within the family and society; to assess the positive and negative impact of globalization on Asian families and to evaluate short term and long term interventions that may mitigate the negative impacts.
The conference will also allow the review of CFM/CFSM (Christian Family and Social Movement) membership and leadership development, formation processes and outreach to be better able to respond to the challenges of a globalized world.
The four-day activities will start with a seminar at the University of San Jose-Recoletos. It is open to all. The seminar dubbed as “The Advocacy Against Domestic Violence and Anger Management” will have as speakers lawyers and president-elect of CFM Philippines, Pip and Wilma Cua, and Commodore Roger and Dr. Naty Dayan, a clinical psychologist.
In this once every three years activity, the CFM/CFSM, with the presence of Catholic Church and government dignitaries, will once again “observe, judge and act, to make both the sending and the receiving Church truly good stewards of God’s gifts.”
Among the guests who will attend the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on Oct. 25 is Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
On Oct. 26, Sun.Star Cebu will host a dinner at the residence of Jesus Garcia and Russian Federation Honorary Consul Armi Lopez-Garcia.
