JAPANESE Ambassador to the Philippines Toshinao Urabe and his wife, Etsuko, hosted a cocktail reception last Nov. 29 at the Shanghai-Beijing rooms of the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel to celebrate the birthday of Emperor Akihito of Japan.
Apart from Urabe and his wife, in attendance were the counselor and consul of the Consular Office of Japan Yoshiaki Hata and his wife, Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. of Negros Occidental, Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.
Ms. Cebu 2012 Pierre Anther Infante together with the Cebu City Tourism officers, as well as Cebu’s diplomatic corps members, civic leaders in the community, Filipino and Japanese businessmen also attended the event.
In his remarks, Urabe said he enjoys visiting Cebu.
“This is my sixth visit in 18 months. The last time was 2 weeks ago. Among all my visits this year, the most memorable was last August. The first Japan Festival 2012 held at the Ayala Center Cebu. A great success and a unique occasion for Cebuanos to enjoy various aspects of the Japanese culture,” he said.
Magpale, in her message, said she hopes the relationship of Cebu and Japan will continue to grow.
“On His Majesty’s most special day, we likewise wish that the close and strong relationship of Cebu and Japan will further bloom so that mutual benefits for both our people in the social, educational cultural and economic aspects of our life continue to be felt and enjoyed,” said Magpale.
