Ayala Center Cebu supports PWD Awareness Month

THIS July, celebrate diversity by promoting dignity, respect for the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) community at Ayala Center Cebu's PWD Month.

With the theme "Breaking Barriers; Opening Doors," the month-long festivity, spearheaded by Ayala Center Cebu in partnership with the Cebu Provincial Government, Gualandi Volunteer Service Programme Inc. (GVSP), and the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines Inc. (DSAPI ), aims to empower the PWD sector through a series of events and activities.

Celebrating PWDs Awareness Month poster

On July 4, Friday, PWD Awareness Month will be officially launched by Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and author of the PWD Ordinance Board Member Arleigh Sitoy, together with exhibit stakeholders, committees, and representatives from various local government units and NGOs, along with the opening of various exhibits around the mall.

From July 4 to 9, catch "Inspiration" at Paseo Solana fronting Crocs, a photo exhibit that tells the stories of inspiring individuals who continue to rise against the odds.

At Level 3 near Maze, check out "Handmade," an exhibit showcasing an array of products made by the PWD community with the support of the Provincial Government.

At the Rotunda area, discover "Possibilities," an exhibit and information drive of various schools and institutions dedicated to people with disabilities and children with special needs. Get to know the government and non-government agencies who serve as prime movers in supporting the PWD community. Information booths will showcase each group's milestones, programs, and upcoming PWD-focused activities. Interested shoppers can sign up to these organizations to get themselves involved.

On July 12, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., a jobs fair will be held at the Active Zone to empower PWDs to apply their skills in different fields.

In cooperation with the Provincial Employment Services Office (Peso) and Philippine Manpower Association of the Philippines (PMAP), the jobs fair is organized to provide opportunities to persons with disabilities.

From July 18 to 24 at The Gallery, a young artist with Down Syndrome will share her thoughts and feelings through visual arts with "Clarissa," a self-titled painting exhibit.

On July 19, Saturday, PWDs can show their physical dexterity at the PWD "Run & Roll," a fun run for PWDs to be held at the Cebu Business Park. Ayala shoppers are also invited to join the event in support of the PWD community. There will be a 3K and 6K run for shoppers and a 500-meter dash race for people in wheelchairs and another 500-meter dash for people in crutches. Registration starts on July 5 at The Active Zone.

On July 24, Thursday, from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the Onstage Cinema, be inspired with stories of opportunities and triumphs during the "PWD Summit." National speakers will talk about the struggles and victories of a person with disability and on living life to the fullest despite their limitations.

Following the talk, at The Activity Center at 3 p.m., Ayala Center Cebu will recognize individuals and organizations who continue to uphold the good cause of the PWD Community at the "PWD Awards."

On July 25, Friday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at The Gallery, author Mary Lorraine Ortiz will talk about overcoming the financial difficulty of raising a child with special needs at a "Parenting Talk" and book signing, while at the Activity Center at 4 p.m., a showcase of the best talents of the PWD community will take center stage at "PWD Got Talent" in partnership with the Provincial Social and Welfare Development Office.

Ayala Center Cebu celebrates and educates the public of a special sector that should be acknowledged and empowered. Be part of this campaign that creates a culture of respect and inspiration towards PWD.
