MEMBERS of Cebu City’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans-gender (LGBT) community met yesterday to mull a protest rally against the decision of the Commission on Election (Comelec) to reject Ang Ladlad LGBT as a party-list group.
Rosario Sequitin, chairperson of the Tonette Lopez Project, said the government is depriving the people’s rights when the Comelec denied Ladlad’s petition.

The Tonette Lopez Project was formed to continue the advocacy of Lopez, a deceased trans-gender who advocated the protection and upholding of human rights,
especially those of the LGBTs.
On Nov. 20, LGBTs in Cebu will conduct a protest rally to ask Comelec to reconsider the inclusion of the Ladlad as a party-list in the 2010 presidential election.
The group will be making informational and educational materials to educate the people and to send a message to the public that they should not be discriminated against
and that they, too, deserve to be represented in the country’s government.
Sequitin, as a leader of the group, said they only wanted to end the discrimination the LGBTs been getting from society.
“We want this discrimination to end. God is a very kind and passionate being and I don’t think that He will damn all homosexuals,” said Sequitin.
Sequitin also said that LGBT’s have already suffered a lot of physical and emotional abuse and have remained a marginalized sector in the society.
Patrick Ty, a member of the group, said that Comelec has “no right to dictate what is moral and immoral.”
Last week, the Comelec denied anew Ladlad’s petition, saying the group advocates immoral doctrines and tolerates immorality.
