AFTER his career plummeted since an unsuccessful campaign in Japan, Cebuano fighter Eriberto “Yukka” Gejon is slowly scaling back to the limelight. He will be up against world-rated Filipino fighter Sonny Boy Jaro in the boxing extravaganza dubbed “The Flash and the Furious” this Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

The former world title contender, Gejon (25-4-1, 14 KO’s), is striving to revive his professional boxing career under the wings of Cebu-based promotional outfit ALA Promotions.
Future
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu that good things await Gejon if he makes an impressive performance against Jaro (29-7-5, 18 KO’s).
“This is a good test for him because Jaro is a good fighter. This will give us a good assessment on where he is at right now,” said Aldeguer in an interview yesterday.
“We want to assess if he’s ready for another world title shot,” added the Cebuano promoter.
Aldeguer said that if the 29-year-old Mandaue native defeats Jaro, who is ranked No. 4 in the World Boxing Council, then he will be pitted against a credible foreign warrior in a big boxing promotion in his next battle.
“We always wanted to place him as an undercard in a big card. It all depends on his performance against Jaro,” said Aldeguer.
Aldeguer thinks that Gejon is slowly recapturing the confidence that he lost due to the string of losses that befell him in Japan.
“He is slowly regaining confidence by sparring with Donnie and Milan,” said Aldeguer.
Sparring partners
Gejon has been sparring with World Boxing Organization mini-flyweight king Donnie Nietes, world-rated ALA standout Milan Melindo and Rocky Fuentes for his war with the 27-year-old Jaro.
Gejon won his last two fights against Roland Castrodes and Brix Ray since his losing slump in Japan, while Jaro was successful in his last bout against unheralded Thai Ruslee Samoh.
Gejon and Jaro will be fighting as an undercard for the title defense of International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization flyweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr., who will be facing Mexican-American pugilist Raul Martinez, and the world title fight of Brian Viloria and IBF light flyweight king Ulises Solis.
