AFTER a split decision victory against young upstart Ronald Castrodes last Sunday in the latest episode of the Summit “Fight Night” boxing tour, former world title contender Eriberto “Yukka” Gejon will be given more fights by ALA promotions to restore him to his former self.
ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer, who handles Gejon, disclosed that before pitting him with a world-class opponent, Gejon must be given two to three more tune-up bouts.
“He needs to fight more before fighting at a different level,” Aldeguer told Sun.Star in an interview yesterday.
Aldeguer plans to line up the talented ALA boy in a fight card in April or May against a talented young pugilist or a seasoned fighter before pitting him with a foreign adversary.
“We’re going to pit him with a young opponent who’s good or a veteran boxer,” he said.
Aldeguer was impressed with the Gejon-Castrodes battle, however, he said Gejon is still out of form because he should have easily won the fight against the unheralded enemy.
“It was one of the most interesting fights I’ve seen. It was full of action. It was generally a good fight. But Gejon needs to be more active because you can still see his rustiness,” said the ALA Promotions president.
Gejon improved to 25-4-1 with 14 knockouts.
In other results, young ALA boy Jomanz Omanz (12-1-2, 6 KOs) had a technical draw with brawler Carlo Magale (4-4-2, 2 KOs). The fight was stopped in the second round because of a deep cut on Omanz’s eyelid from an accidental clash of heads, while hard-hitting ALA fighter James Bacon (7-1, 5 KOs) edged out Elorde stables’ Jaypee Ignacio (5-7-1, 1 KOs) in an eighth round unanimous decision.
