Gorres leaves UMC

AFTER his second surgery to reattach a part of his skull last week, Z Gorres was discharged from the University Medical Center (UMC) Hospital in Las Vegas the other day.

Gorres, 27, has been confined in the hospital for more than two months recuperating from a career-ending head injury he suffered from his Nov. 13 fight against Colombian banger Luis Melendez.

He won that he won via unanimous decision.

Although Gorres could fly back to the Philippines on Feb. 4, ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer wants his ward to return here on Feb 15., because the young promoter wants everything set in place when Gorres returns.

“The rehab here is already okay. We’re just finishing the preparations. We want everything to be okay when he arrives,” Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.

Aldeguer said that Gorres will continue his rehabilitation at the Perpetual Succour Hospital rehabilitation center, which he believes is the most accessible rehab facility that is close to Gorres’ home.

Aldeguer will be leaving to the US early in February to fetch Gorres.

He will also be there to talk with Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao and adviser Michael Koncz for their assistance to the fallen Cebuano fighter.

“They didn’t really specify if they would help Z financially, but they said that they are willing to help,” said Aldeguer.

Meanwhile, Sen. Lito Lapid has extended his assistance to Gorres.

Abscbnnews.com reported that Lapid, the chairman of the Senate’s games, amusement and sports committee, visited Gorres at the UMC last week.

“I hope nobody will give malice to this. This has noting to do with politics…He’s medical bill is getting higher and he can no longer box,” said Lapid.

Lapid is also willing to give Gorres a small business so he can help support his family.

It’s not only politicians but ordinary Pinoys in the US who are helping Gorres.

His wife Datches, who left for the US late last year, told Abscbnnews.com they’ve received help from the nurses who attend to Gorres.

The report also said that a concerned Filipino has adopted the boxer and his wife as they wait to return home to Cebu.
