Greg says doors closed, bridges burned, won’t reconcile with Gwen

SAYING he felt insulted by their statements, Cebu Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez said he is closing his doors to the possibility of reconciling with the Garcias.

“Someone very close to me, a mayor, also made efforts for reconciliation. But all has been said and done. I already burned my bridges. There’s no turning back,” Sanchez said.

He said he felt insulted that despite attempts to work for reconciliation, he was “ignored and treated like a small guy, after she (Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia) said there are other pressing issues to address.”

Sanchez, who has served two terms as vice governor, said he is not interested to run for a higher position.

In 2010, he will “definitely” not run for governor, but may seek reelection, with or without a party. Another option is to concentrate on his business.

But Sanchez admitted he is also considering running under the Liberal Party (LP) because his “heart is with the Aquinos” and he would like to support presidential aspirant Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III because of his honesty and integrity.

“Actually, I am torn between two loves—genuine and honest service to the people and my family business,” Sanchez said in a press statement, which he also considered his “formal resignation” from One Cebu.

Sought for comment, Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu Province, 3rd district) said that Sanchez should not make the Garcia family his excuse for leaving the party.

If Sanchez persists, Pablo John said, he “will tell the Cebuano people the real reasons for his behavior and give them an idea about his real character.”

“Talk about long goodbyes. But let’s not insult the Cebuano people. He is leaving One Cebu because he wants to jump to another party and be number one rather than number two,” the governor’s brother added.

Sanchez said that because he favors the rescission of the entire contract for the Capitol’s purchase of the former Balili resort in Naga, he drew the ire of the Garcias.

“I must voice out what I feel. In my view, dry land and (land covered by) seawater aren’t worth the same, that’s why I voted for the rescission,” Sanchez said.

He also repeated that the trans-axial highway development he had pushed was not acted upon.

“I completed the pre-feasibility studies and sent these to the executive even with the belief that it (the project) is going to the grave,” Sanchez said.

In his statement, he said the rules, policies and decisions of One Cebu “are dictated by One Family and no consultation was being done within the party, which is supposed to be the ideal thing to do.”

Pablo John, however, said Sanchez has admitted that he has been talking to the Nacionalista Party, Liberal Party and Panaghiusa long before he thought about leaving One Cebu. (RSA)

The pouting vice governor I

The pouting vice governor

I have a five-year-old nephew who loves to pout every time he cannot get his wish from his parents. He doesn’t hesitate to throw a tantrum the moment his dad and mom won't give in to his whims.

After observing this phenomenon, I was under the assumption that only a young child will pout. No. I was completely wrong. Even an adult will also pout like a small boy or girl.

It’s a disgrace to hear or read a news report, when an adult whose age and physique considered to be mature shamefully behaves like a kindergarten pupil.

I esteem Vice Governor Greg Sanchez as one of the ablest and keenest politicians in our beloved Cebu. But his recent demeanor changed how I think of him. And here’s the reason why.

Most of his whining against Gov. Gwen Garcia is something personal. Like for instance in one news he said “he felt like being ignored.”

Obviously the vice governor wants to be treated as someone important, being the no. 2 public official in the Province of Cebu.

He griped bitterly against the governor. He wants answers right away from his superior. He wants to impose his likes on Gwen Garcia. And if his political desires were unheeded, as it has been turned down recently, he pouted and acted like an immature adult.

There’s an attitude problem here on the part of our beloved vice governor, Gregorio Greg Sanchez. If the Governor ignores his request, he has to back off and ponder the reason. Maybe he has done something wrong against Gwen Garcia. Remember the saying that goes, “You reap what you sow.” Maybe you are not loyal to the Garcias, that’s why the Garcias are not loyal to you in return.

The more Greg Sanchez bashed Gwen Garcia, the more the former is hurting himself personally and politically. The more he is revealing his genuine character than the one whom he is excoriating.
