Happy with result, bored with fight

IF CEBUANO boxing fans were to describe in one word the Pacquiao-Clottey fight yesterday, it would be—boring.

However, the fans agree on one thing—Pacquiao should face the flamboyant Floyd Mayweather Jr. next.

“It may not be his easiest victory to date but it was an easy win for Pacquiao, even if it went to 12 rounds. Clottey was too defensive that he was no longer fighting. As to politics, maybe he should just forget about it and just concentrate on facing Mayweather next.” –Jess Lagman, Philippine Tennis Association regional head.

“Nabusy ko sa trabaho that I wasn’t able to watch the entire match. Putol-putol but I saw how Pacquiao dominated it. I think it is best that Pacquiao faces Mayweather next. This is probably the most in demand fight. As to entering politics, I believe Pacquiao should consider it. People criticize him because of his educational attainment. But public service is not in your academic background but in the commitment and the heart to serve. He has proven that so I believe people should give him a chance.”—Edwin Langga, Banquet Manager, Cebu Parklane International Hotel, where hundreds came to watch the match live.

“Boring kaayo nga duwa. Si Clottey sige ug defend. Hantud nalang nahuman. But Pacquiao should really stay with boxing because he is good at it. There is no need for him to get into politics because he has done a lot already to inspire and motivate not just athletes like me but all the Filipinos.

Besides, without holding any position in the government, he can help people.” –Kevin Miñoza, dancesport athlete

“Daog pero wa ka-daog kai wala man niya napatumba si Clottey.

Lig-on kaayo. –Nelson Archival, retired

“At this time, boxing is all about the show. And that was not a show. It was a huge mistake for Bob Arum to get Clottey. Ni-ubos hinuon ang pagtan-aw sa mga taw kang Clottey because of that pathetic performance. It was supposed to be his chance to shine but he never showed his best form hantud nalang nag 12th round.

Makalagot si Clottey oy talawan. Disappointed ang mga taw nag tan-aw. Now we hope to see Pacquiao fight Mayweather.”—Apas Barangay Captain Ramil Ayuman, who watched at the Apas Gym.

“Bati kaayo ang duwa. Nag expect mi nga nindot ang duwa unya bati. Wa mi nag expect nga maabot ug 12 rounds pero naabot ug 12 rounds. Maayo unta mag abot si Pacquiao ug Mayweather aron makita nato kung lig-on gyud siya.” –Benny Lamoste. Habal-Habal driver

“Boring kaayo. I thought I’d be screaming while watching because Clottey looks like a scary person. I was just excited before the fight started but then Clottey was just holding his arms up and not punching.” Cielo Colina, account officer BDO insurance.

“I’m not contented because I though it will finish in three to four rounds. But naabot man ug 12 rounds. Happy ra gihapon kay daog man si Pacquiao.” –Gerry Barcenas, waiter, Figaro.
