Symbolisms
Monday, March 7, 2011
AS THE month of March trudges on to reveal what is in store for us, we almost immediately hear of graduations and the congratulatory celebrations that come after fresh graduates step out of the academe.
New professionals are welcomed into their respective professions. The industry of art is no exception. New names and fresh faces, young blood bursting with creative energy are introduced through solo art exhibitions to the public in order to launch their career.
Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.
Budding artist and trained at University of San Carlos, Chester Baldicantos’ time has finally come for the community to see his first body of art works.
While being new and unexposed to the art scene, a young and talented artist may be faced with certain perceptions from others. Those ahead of him may sometimes expect that the new artist’s initial output will be basic in theme and format. But that line of thought isn’t always true.
With “Symbolic” (at the CAP Art Center), a solo exhibit of Baldicantos, we are treated to a sampling of what young minds are seeing, feeling and doing. The show tells that art isn’t just about things that are beautiful, but much deeper than what is visually perceived.
Baldicantos’ art dives deep to expose the emotional condition that surrounds human depression. His emotionally charge paintings give form to what may just be a new reconfiguration on figurative painting.
There is an ample dose of shock value coming from the paintings, so the viewer better prepare. When you’re tired and bored with what you consider as the usual shows—although without the “usual” like those created by the forerunners of art, there would be no “modern” art—don’t fret. There is in our midst a fresh batch of juniors, like Baldicantos. He can be counted on to add fuel to fire we know as intellectual exercise.
