A SELECT representation of contemporary Cebuano art was crated and transported to Manila as Cebu’s participation to the “CEB-MNL: An Exhibition.” It was an art project of the Ateneo de Manila University Fine Arts Program and senior students majoring in arts management.
The exhibition was held at the fifth floor of the new Ateneo Rizal Library. It opened on Feb. 10 and concluded a few weeks ago. The hoard of 70 artworks was divided into four components and individual or group shows.

First, the Tito Cuevas collection was called “The Inception of Diviation” and highlights three decades of the artist’s artistic career as an abstract expressionist painter and printmaker.
The second show featured the paintings of Karl Roque, Sio Montera and Vidal Alcoseba Jr. and were grouped in one show entitled “A Route To Globalization.”
Representing the younger generation of artists were Russ Ligtas and members of the Junks Collective composed of underground graffiti artists. This third segment was aptly called “Breaking In, Breaking Out.”
Lastly, odd sculptures reflecting localized Christian iconography made from found objects formed Ritchie Quijano’s “Salvaged Antiquity,” the fourth and last show. The art project was curated by JV Castro, Tanee Fong and Gab Aguila. It was held for the benefit of the Jesuit Communication Foundation, Alternative Contemporary Art Studio and the Ateneo de Manila University Fine Arts Program.
