A GOOD bar beside the sea—what more can you ask for?
“Couldn’t it be any nearer to the city?”
Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.
Ah yes, that is one thing many hoped this bar would be. But suffice to say, part of the fun is made up of the not-so-short road trip.
Tiki Bar located in Mactan (more specifically inside the compound of Bigfoot Studios) is a place where one can chill out the night away with good food, drinks, and some class entertainment—from featuring live bands, singers, karaoke nights and DJs, to screening movies in collaboration with the International Academy of Film and Television.
“(We have) cocktails, mixed drinks, beer, wine and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Plus, we have delicious barbecue food and our very own pizza, made fresh every time as you order,” added manager Jaye Muller.
Mactan Island has always been an integral part to the totality of Cebu’s history. From the first time foreign settlers arrived, to becoming today a sort of “beach resorts hub” for locals and tourists alike. Plus, the opening of Bigfoot Studios in Mactan a few years ago has placed Cebu on the moviemaking map.
This exotic bar has its own history to tell. And as some of you don’t probably know, this was originally created as a set for the movie Deep Gold.
The movie is “an action thriller produced by Bigfoot Entertainment,” that had shots also taken here in Cebu.
Starring “Bebe Pham, Ken Arden, Jaymee Ong and Amelia Jackson-Grey, the feature length film showcases the beauty of the Philippine Islands,” added their online site.
“Tiki Bar was first built as a set for the movie Deep Gold, but as the cost to build a real bar was not much higher than the set, they decided to build it as a functioning bar. The bar as it stands today with new roof and stage has existed since November 2009,” explains Jaye.
Despite the distance from the city, one can pretty much observe a diverse mix of clients.
Sometimes the public assumes that the hangout is a private bar for the people connected with Bigfoot only, when in fact, the bar welcomes anyone who just wants to come by and have a good time—every day from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
