Playing dress-up
Thursday, November 3, 2011
IT IS somehow a joy to see mother and child dress alike perhaps because it speaks of love and affection. So it was a delight to watch Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Eco-Walk for Gawad Kalinga featuring mother and child fashion.
The show, part of MCCI’s culminating activity for Mandaue’s Business Month, featured clothes by Cebu’s senior and junior cuoturiers as worn by Mandaue’s elite, using in part fabrics from Anthill Fabric Gallery, particularly cloth woven from scrap threads by indigenous tribes.

The clothes the mothers and children wore were alike, but not quite the same: the designers made sure the cut and color motifs were similar, making their designs appropriate for the age level of the wearer.
Among the featured designers were Manuel Tomaque, Owen Taboada, Rei Escario, Hanz Coquilla, Lorymer Villareal, Alejandro Hajji Godinez, Rey Humberto Villegas, Leonardo Igloria, Yves Camingue, and Leonardo Igloria. Also a part of the show was Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia in a Cary Santiago white strapless gown, Alice Uy in an Edwin Alba short cocktail dress, and Nikki Haw in Rei Escario.
The show raised P150,000 for Gawad Kalinga’s staff house.
