HE holiday mood lingers because Cebu’s biggest fiesta is just around the corner. The feast of the Sto. Niño will be celebrated this weekend with a procession on Saturday, Jan. 14 starting out at the Basilica Minore de Sto. Niño, passing through the city’s main thoroughfares. On Sunday the famed Sinulog Grand Parade kicks off at 9 a.m.

To celebrate the fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Congressman Eddie Gullas and wife Mingming hosted lunch for the group of priests (40 or so) who took part in the church festivities at the Guadalupe parish. The venue was their palatial home in V. Rama Ave. In the afternoon, Mingming invited a few friends for merienda and surprised them with a tour of her once-upon-a-time bodega, now transformed into a grand suite which showcases her collection of furniture and countless pieces of art.

Alegre Beach Resort & Spa gave a warm send-off for its outgoing manager Fritz Kahler who had served the resort for six years, and a rousing welcome to new general manager Vinaflor Concepcion “Dottie” Wurgler-Cronin during an evening party at the poolside of the beautiful seaside haven in Sogod.

After a few years wait, Gil and Christine (Misa) Coscolluela are finally expecting their first-born on this auspicious year of the Dragon. The young couple’s happy relatives—aunts Lucy F. Garcia, Jean F. Teves, Diana F. Ledesma, and Maia Franco, cousins Trina Molina and Jessica Ledesma, classmates Maite Moraza and Leanne Florendo, and sis-in-law Nina Misa—lost no time in organizing a baby shower for the soon-to-be mom at the Cebu Country Club.The happiest faces at the party belonged tn Ed and Helen Misa who are looking forward to grandparenthood for the first time. Willie and Marion Coscolluela, they are excited to have another addition to the family.

Wolf and Kristalle (Garcia) Kekert invited family and friends to a dinner celebration at the Cebu Country Club on the occasion of the christening of their first-born son, Harvey Antonio. Msgr. Cristobal Garcia officiated during the baptismal ceremony at the Sacred Heart Parish Church.

A cruise ship adventure was the theme of Cebu City Marriott Hotel’s Partnerships in Excellence: Marriott Awards. The celebration, held at the hotel poolside, recognized the hotel’s top corporate accounts. In keeping with the ship atmosphere, the hotel’s sales and marketing team led by director Dominic Dorol wore sailor outfits.

The newest addition to the restaurant row at Oakridge Business Park is Cafe Laguna Express, a modified version of the very popular Cafe Laguna founded by kitchen queen Lita U. Inauguration day found the Urbinas, particularly youngest son John Paul, on the frontline. He takes charge of this new outlet which offers new items on the menu as well as the same old favorites Cebuanos have grown to love.

Over in Hawaii, Dr. Jerald Garcia and wife Christina hosted an intimate dinner at their new seaside home for a group of friends. Giving them a hand was Jerald’s mom Ninette. A few weeks later, they all came to spend the holidays here in dear old Cebu.
