From the mind through the heart off the radio

THE ART of music has long been tapped into, when it comes to sharing and expressing the feeling of love. Love songs for instance, whether bitter or euphoric, have been penned ever since. As a fact, songs were written even before radio broadcast was even made possible. The human heart from the beginning has always had something to sing about.

Get a glimpse into the minds of these songwriters from today’s rising local acts and learn more about how they channel the emotion of love into their original songs.

It doesn’t really matter what subject I decide to dab into, the way I write songs does not change. I just let the words rush in. It’s always been all about letting the emotions freely fill up their share in a song. After all, they are what fuel me to write. Given so, empty words are a no-no.
– Xane Castillo, Vocalist/Songwriter, March The Sky

Most of the compositions I write come from my personal experiences. I’ve always believed it’s one of the best sources of learning. Other song inspirations come from complicated love stories of my friends that interest me, so I took the time to write about them too. Yes I do agree, that not all relationships end up happily—heartaches and failures happen to many—and since then, I’ve been emphasizing this sad reality of having romantic relationships to people. But as much as possible, I also want to plant into every person’s heart that there is hope and that true love exists! Corny? It’s up to you to believe. I’ve seen it happen to many, why can’t it happen to you too? My principle in love is founded by the Word of God. Simple as it is. It’s directing the way I look at love, and I’m putting this views to my songs to.
– Cherry Christrose Castro, Vocalist/Songwriter,Neverending Weekend

I don’t believe in fairy tales. I always look at life as bitter sweet. Thus with love songs, I like to write about f****d up stories that happen in life that everybody else tries to ignore.

Be it a homosexual relationship, a man falling for a married woman, a woman forced to marry to someone she doesn’t love as much just so she could have a baby in time before she dies, a 90-year-old couple calling it quits, or a man having an affair because his wife is not fulfilling his needs but at the same time can’t live without her...

You see the truth is more interesting than fiction. And luckily I’ve been around these types of stories too much to let it slip away. I’m not the type that just makes up stories, these are actual things I’ve seen on a film, experienced in real life, or heard from a friend. And this is not me just trying to be artsy, these things really did happen one way or another (maybe not as extreme). But writing songs about these stories make it easier for people to swallow and accept.
– Makuz Cortes, Vocalist/Songwriter, Rescue A Hero

When it comes to love songs there is no better source of inspiration than the web of emotions I usually find myself tangled up in during this time of the year. These are the types of songs that take a substantial amount of your time and guts to say what the heart longs to say. As an artist, some of the best songs I’ve written have required a huge part of me pouring myself into a sheet of words in the most-crafty way possible. From experiences of a heartache to the euphoric sensation someone gives me—nothing is more satisfying than singing to the tune of thoughts that were once locked up.
