A DAY to remember in December was the inauguration of the office of the Cebu Coalition of People Power Volunteers for Reform (PPVR) at the third floor, Manros Plaza building along Mango Avenue.
Though a rather modest office, the mid-afternoon affair created quite a stir—with the presence of plain clothes security, traffic cops in motorcycles, and military personnel amidst the crowd causing undue curiosity.

There was actually no cause for alarm or concern for the VIPs included; two prestigious members of the Diplomatic Community namely, Their Excellencies Harry K. Thomas Jr. and Liu Jianchao, Ambassadors of the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China, respectively, who were the ribbon-cutters.
They were guests of chairman Emeritus Augusto W. Go of the PPVR, and his reform group, part of the organization campaign for Aquino for President Movement.
The brief but meaningful program that followed included welcome remarks by Atty. Go, and a briefing on the PPVR by Edgar Comeros. Then more importantly, the two guests touched on “The Importance of Volunteerism in The Fight Against Corruption,” by Amb. Thomas and “The Role of Volunteers in Poverty Alleviation” by Amb. Jianchao. A resounding cheer followed the shaking of hands in friendship by both dignitaries!

In an interesting anecdote related by its glamorous developer, Annie Osmeña-Aboitiz, the rustic land used to be owned by her grandfather the respected late President of the Philippines Don Sergio Osmeña Sr., then known as Hacienda Mandaue back in 1914.
The land has now gone back to his descendants.
Behold The Heritage, Maria Luisa Properties latest development—a 13.6 hectare expanse of splendidly flat and gradually rolling terrain, with exclusive 241 to 591 square meter lots, located in a private, residential area in Jagobiao, Mandaue.
Property owners will be provided with an address deeply-rooted in Cebuano history, combined with modern-day amenities like a clubhouse, swimming pool, basketball court, fishpond—indeed a subdivision that blends the old and the new.
Here’s more good news! Its proximity to supermarkets (SM), schools (Ateneo de Cebu-Sacred Heart School in Canduman), hospitals and the airport, make it indeed super convenient and hassle-free.
Last but not least, The Heritage boasts of an eco-friendly ambience with more than average open spaces, STF detention ponds, an amenities area, 10-12 meter roads and tree-lined sidewalks, a guardhouse, in other words, an exclusive gated community!

It’s another community-outreach project for the Quota International Club of Cebu-South, whose members introduced a series of livelihood training and feeding activities in celebration of its 11th anniversary.
Lucky recipients of this bounty were deaf-mute students from First National High School for the Deaf, who were taught the delicate art of ribbon-making, crocheting of glass coasters, etc.
The Quotarians also proceeded to Barangay Ocaña in Carcar City, to distribute food, vitamins and deworming medicines to 100 kids.
Grateful thanks to JB Orchid Pharmaceuticals, Inc., AHL Rose Bakeshop, Anitas Home Bakeshop and Margie’s Bakeshop for the snacks.
