Wednesday art at the mall

DO YOU want to have a sketch of yourself and you don’t know an artist to draw it for you? Worry no more because artists are ready and able to do that for you every Wednesday afternoon at Coffee Dream, in front of SM City Cebu’s Art Center.

One of the artists, Boy Kiamko, explains that a group of artists were at Coffee Dream in September, on a lull from arranging their exhibit at the Art Center when the idea came to them: why not come here every Wednesday to hone their craft at sketching portraits? And so the Wednesday Group was born.

It’s a loose group of artists. There’s no organization they belong to. Anyone can come and join them. They meet for the love of art. This is where, aside from honing their craft, they get to meet clients, learn what is happening in their community. For the young artists, it is where they can meet with seasoned artists and perhaps learn from them.

For art lovers, aside from getting themselves sketched if they so want, this is where they can meet with the artists, perhaps get to talk with the artist of a painting they own and, if they need to know more about art, this is where they can ask any of the artists for any explanation they may need.

The artists are in Coffee Dream starting at 2 in the afternoon, with some artists who have day jobs coming in later, perhaps at 5 o’clock. Among the regular artists there are Boy Kiamko, Kimsoy Yap, Maxwell Migallos, Clint Normandia, Elroy Managbanag, Gigi Ocampo, Jobril Villaver, Pepe Ybanez, Luther Galicano and Boy Francisco.

For those who want a sketch of themselves done, they can sit for all the artists who are there for 30 to 45 minutes after which they can choose five of the sketches to take home for a minimal fee of a thousand.
