'Fun run' to raise awareness on goiter, obesity, diabetes
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
GOITER is an enlargement of the thyroid gland and may be indicative of a thyroid problem. An overfunctioning thyroid gland, or hyperthyroidism, causes weight loss, sweating, tremors, easy fatigability, and a fast heart rate, among other things. In some cases, it is even the root of a life-threatening heart rhythm problem (arrhythmia).
Hypothyroidism, or a gland that is working at sub-normal levels, may cause a marked increase in weight, weakness, constipation, depression, and even heart failure. A simple blood test can determine whether your thyroid gland is working properly.
