Wine treat: Red and white parade
-A A +AFriday, June 22, 2012
SAY CHEERS! Then look straight into the eyes that dare look back. Follow that with a toast and a little shake of the glass until those famous wine legs form, before finally taking the much anticipated sip. Yes, that is how it is to enjoy wine with pals.
When talk arrives on topics such as this, it is normally linked with particular celebrations like, say, Father’s Day. Though the date for that occasion has passed, as the expression goes, it is better late than never for those who have not gotten good gifts for dad yet.
In line with the celebration, Marks and Spencer came up with an invigorating idea—a wine tasting treat held on June 16 to 17 at Level 1 of Ayala Center Cebu. But the fun did not stop there, for until June 25, under a British Campaign, it is selling all wines at a 15 percent discount.
Exquisite red and white wines were showcased during the wine tasting affair. As a basic rule, whites are served before the reds so we do that in writing too.
An easy favorite was the Moscatel de Valencia from Spain. It is a truly refreshing wine donning a pale lemon hue. The unavoidable scent of green grapes and peaches contributes to its luscious ripe flavor. Considered a lighter style of dessert, this dessert wine is made from Valencia, fully geared with crisp and aromatic character.
Another white served was the Gold Label Chardonnay from France. It has an interesting feel of ripeness and elegance as a result of its rich peach, pineapple fruit and hint of creamy oak in one mix. Possessing complexity, it still has a freshness and crisp streak about it.
Next, the Russo di Puglia from Italy was the starter for the red squad. Distinguishing qualities would include being ripe, soft and deeply colored with rich blackberry and cherry notes, plus a delicious hint of toasted nuts. It is a wine that exudes an easygoing appeal.
Another red served was the Burra Brook Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia. It is set in dark and serious red blush but softened with ripe blackcurrant fruit and a tasty touch of oak flavor. With black currant often regarded as the most famous grape in the world, it flaunts a distinctive cassis and rich smooth texture.
Still another red is the Snapper Cove Shiraz from Australia. It has a soft tatin and fruit-forward style that makes it most ideal for going with everyday dishes. Moreover, this juicy, fruit-laden wine is flavorfully packed with ripe wild berries accompanied by hints of cream, clove and violets.
Finally, the Gold Label Cabernet Sauvignon from France is a delicious combination of plenty of ripe cassis fruit, rich but soft structure and a subtle hint of mint. With luscious ripe blackcurrant fruit comes this beautifully balanced wine.
These are not the only wines available, though. The store hosts other wines suitable for whatever occasion one plans to prepare for.
Does it have to take certain events to call for wine service? Not really, because wine is always good whenever there are good friends, good food and good conversation gathered in one good place.
