FINALLY, SM has gone north, to the bustling town of Consolacion, almost 20 years after it opened its first mall in Metro Cebu. Named SM City Consolacion, the new mall has a gracious curved façade and sits on a 44,515-square-meter site in Barangay Lamac, along Cebu’s North Road. The mall has three levels with 106,857 square meters of space for its locators.

To be found in this mall are SM stores: the grocery, the department store, Ace Hardware and Watson’s. Among other outlets to be found here are a Cyberzone, Perfect Smile, Penshoppe, For Me, Wonder Nails, North Dental, Kira’s Box (a play area for kids), Bench Body, Kamisa, Cocolife Insurance, Jude’s Ticketing and Team Pacquiao, Manny Pacquiao’s first sportswear outlet in Cebu.

The mall has a spacious activity center at the ground floor level that can hold car shows, concerts and other events. At the second floor is located the Food Court, with walls done in warm, welcoming tones of yellow and green. There are a lot of food and drink choices: Casa Ilongga, Sugbahan, Crunchicken, Tiktilaok, Kusinang Pinoy, Kingwah Smokin’ Toppings, Ayer’s Lechon House, Smokey’s Lotsa’ Pizza, Beer Station, Potato Corner, Dunkin’ Donuts, Thirsty, Buko Frutas. Patrons can dine in or go al fresco at the balcony that hugs the food court.

Engineer Van V. Averia, mall manager, says there are currently 95 locators in the mall with 20 more opening soon. He adds that the mall’s four digital cinemas, with a total seating capacity of 1,448, are now open, doing surprisingly well, just like the whole mall, which, he says, is doing better than expected.

For the town of Consolacion, the mall is surely a boon to its economy. And for the people in that area, including the outlying towns, it is a great shopping and socializing convenience.
