IT WAS a red-letter day at the barrio of Bitoon in Dumanjug when the J.P. Garcia Park was blessed and inaugurated. The park sits on the land where the Garcia ancestral home (Vicente Garcia and Josefa Paras) was located before it was burned down during the war. The property now belongs to us, the heirs of the late Jesus P. Garcia, and we (eight siblings) have decided to turn it into a park to honor our late father, Don Jesus, who is a favorite and much-admired son of Bitoon. Our father loved his birth place very much and we felt that the least we could do is to help develop the little barrio by putting up a park for the enjoyment of its residents.

We also honored our late mother by putting up the Ever B. Garcia Reading Center for the students in the place. It was blessed and inaugurated on the same day.

A dinner celebration at the Cebu International Convention Center marked the groundbreaking of the new Chong Hua Hospital and Cancer Center which will rise at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue. The original Chong Hua Hospital, an invaluable arm of the Asociacion Benevola de Cebu, has been a pillar in Cebu’s healthcare industry.

With its accreditation and approval from the Joint Commission International, it is one of only four accredited hospitals in the country today.

Autowelt BMW in Cebu was officially relaunched by Asian Carmakers Corporation, the official importer and distributor of BMW cars and motorcycles in the Philippines, during a cocktail affair at its premises in Nivel Hills. It was also the perfect occasion to unveil the all-new BMW 6 Series. Frontliners were Martin Goho, chairman of Autowelt BMW and Jose Ch. Alvarez chairman of Asian Carmakers Corp.

A thanksgiving mass ushered in the 25th founding anniversary of the San-Vic Duros group. Venue was the Atlantic Hall of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. After the mass was the opening of exhibit dubbed “Through the Years” followed by dinner and a lively program. The San-Vic Duros family is proud of its legacy of enduring values.

It was a joint celebration for the 100th Anniversary of the Cebu Women’s Club, Inc. (CWCI) and the 90th anniversary of the Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House, Inc. (CPCMHI). The fellowship and gala night was held at Salon de España of Casino Español. On the frontline were CWCI president Letty Canoy and CPCMHI president Flor Streegan.
