SPERRY Top-sider, the original top-sider, has finally arrived in the Queen City of the South, opening its flagship retail store in the Visayas in the upscale Northwing of SM City Cebu.

Sperry Top-sider, the authentic original since 1935, now offers its iconic boat shoe collection to Cebuanos who share the same passion for the sea.

The Sperry Cebu store opening was marked with a ceremonial nautical rope cutting by Islands Group chief executive officer Jay Aldeguer, Councilor Eduardo Rama, Glenn Soco, and Karen Ong, retail operations division manager of Sperry Top-sider. The ceremony was followed by a program, which traced the history of the brand, and a preview of the shoe collection, culminating with cocktails for the media and bloggers, as well as special guests.

The Sperry Top-Sider was first made in 1935, when Paul Sperry, an avid sailor and
outdoorsman, discovered a long-sought solution to a problem that had long troubled the sailing community: the fact that traditional shoes performed “like roller skates” on a wet deck. As Paul Sperry described it, his new shoes "stuck like a barnacle."

Decades later, the Sperry Top-Sider Authentic Original boat shoe has emerged as an icon of classic American style, with a reach far beyond boating. It is now a symbol of seaside adventures and for many, evokes a sense of nostalgia, pride and familiarity. Generations have grown up with these same iconic shoe designs that remain virtually unchanged since 1935.

At the same time, the innovative, fashionable, trendy colors and materials of Sperry Top-sider’s 'Authentic Original' continues to attract a new audience of enthusiasts – people who have discovered Sperry Top-Sider and appreciate the shoes’ substance and style.
