Utzurrum: Spanish day in Cebu-A A +A
Wednesday, January 9, 2013
TRADITION has it that annually the Feast of Our Lady of the Pillar, Spain’s patroness, is celebrated with much pomp and grandeur. And the Philippines, which was a colony of this Hispanic nation, also marks this feast as Spanish Day.
LEADERS. The board of directors of Casino Español are (from left) treasurer David Chan, secretary Gabriel Leyson, president Antonio Veloso Jr., vice president Editho Tirol, cultural and social affairs director Paco Jarque and sports director Luis Moro III.
The formal affair was graced with the presence of the new Honorary Consul of Spain in Cebu, Anton Perdices and wife, Maripas, who mingled with the festive crowd of young and not-so-young couples and the ever-present dancing group.
Food was aplenty and super-sumptuous, with wine flowing endlessly. The usual toasts were made and then rocking, “dancerous” music filled the air.
Casino left no stone unturned to make this event a gastronomic as well as "ballroom-y" success. Manila-based Rockin' 60s band, under the stewardship of food guru, Nancy Reyes-Lumen, treated the music-loving guests to a listening as well as a dancing soiree. Till next year, “Viva España a todos!”
