HOW MANY songs have been written about love? It is rather impossible to keep track of the number of songs inspired by the most powerful emotional expression of mankind.
Answers.com wrote this because love has been the most common theme by composers and lyricists since music was introduced. There are millions of songs about love that describe almost every situation: falling in love, finding love, searching for love, losing love, being grateful for love, wishing for love, and missing a loved one.
According to Ask.com, no one knows the exact number of love songs that have been written. “These beautiful expressions of affection have been created since the earliest days of human beings, with many examples from ancient Greece. Many of the Psalms of the Bible as well as the Song of Solomon were intended to be sung. With the recent modern technology, it is a lot easier to know the latest songs. In the past, many of the compositions got lost.”
What are some of the most beautiful love songs ever written? To name a few and they are also my favorites: The First time Ever I saw Your Face by Roberta Flack, You Make Me Feel Brand New by The Stylistics, I Will Always Love You, Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler, Someone Saved My Life Tonight by Elton John and Faithfully by Journey.
In About.com, I found out that the most unforgettable love songs were written in the early 1930s and 1940s, considered to be the Golden Age of Musical Theatre in America.
“Many musicals were brought to the stage and several were adapted into films.
Composers and lyricists continued to collaborate to create beautiful love songs.
Among them were Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin and Richard Rodgers.”
Some of these unforgettable songs were our parents’ favorites: Begin the Beguine, Cheek to Cheek, Isn’t it Romantic, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, My Funny Valentine, Night and Day and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.
Talking about love is inevitable on Valentine’s Day. However, let us not forget about God’s unconditional love for each and every one of us.
