THE invite read, “(sic) La Junta Directiva del Casino Español de Cebu tiene el gusto de invitarles al: Baile de Disfraces:” at the Salon de España (read as: an invitation to the "Ball by the Board of Directors).

BRAZILIAN WAY. Rafael Zuluaga (second from left) and better-half Ellen are in their colorful and shiny costumes. They swayed in as a Brazilian duo and won the Most Colorful Pair award. They are with dance judges (from left) lawyer Jasmine Cuizon, Mark Canton and May Ocaba, Casino general manager.

And what a ball that was to bid farewell to 2012 and welcome with a bang 2013, the year of the Year of the Water Snake.
Indeed, the salon was decked like a Spanish fiesta with wide ribbons of stunning hues, twisted and crisscrossing the ceiling, with an elaborate chandelier as focal point.
With this atmosphere, the Purple Notes Band, rendered oh so memorable tunes of the
‘60s and ‘70s.
As the crowd thickened, waiters scurried to and fro, smilingly as they served exquisite canapés and pouring white or red wine, as the case may be, into empty glasses. Then an announcement was made to get ready for the costume parade, the highlight of the evening. Meanwhile, very visible were the members of the Junta Directiva who saw to it that every member and his family were well-attended and in a jovial mood.
As soon as director for cultural and social activities Paco Jarque took the mic, the much-awaited marching in of colorful, original and elegant personalities, dancing couples and graceful groups took place, with the judges observing and scoring away!
We have a photoplay of the evening’s event, which says so much more than words can describe. Well anyway, at the countdown towards midnight, you could feel the frenzy, and excitement of the arrival of the New Year. Raise your goblets and say “Bienvenida al Ano 2013!
