TAFT Property Venture Development Corp. (TPVDC) and its partner-contractor DDT Konstract, Inc. (DDTKI) completed over the weekend the largest ever mat foundation for a single building in Cebu at the site of the first of two towers of the Horizons 101 project along General Maxilom Ave.
No less than 5,300 cubic meters or more than 500 truckloads of concrete were discharged into the base of the planned tallest structure in Cebu, disclosed Joseph Mendoza, head of the technical and construction group of TPVDC.
TPVDC and DDTKI conducted the monolithic or non-stop pouring of the final mass for more than 30 hours from 9 p.m. on Friday, March 1, to 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, March 3.
As a way of comparison, the amount of concrete used is equivalent to three-kilometers of a standard six-meter wide road, or poured into 50 basketball courts, explained Mendoza.
Incidentally, DDTKI held the record of supervising the last single biggest mat foundation for a building that it built at Cebu Business Park in very recent years.
Mendoza said it will take some time before the record of Horizons 101 will be surpassed, adding that the Taft project will “confidently be the tallest edifice in Cebu for at least 5 to even 10 years.”
The company is on target with the project’s completion by 2015 for the 55-storey Tower 1, which is already 85 percent sold. Tower 2, with 46 floors, is now being sold with a take-up of 35 percent.
