Espina: All for Cebu-A A +A
Monday, August 19, 2013
IT WAS short, simple and warm. Cebu Gov. Jun Davide led the toast to celebrate the 144th anniversary of the Cebu Province and said: “Ato ni, mga Sugbuanon!” Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale welcomed all local officials, the consular corps, businessmen and the media to the evening of music and fellowship.
The Gabi-I Sa Sugbu was the culminating activity, which also featured the Sandiego and Cebu City dancers and the winners of the singing and dancing competitions held during the weeklong festivities. It was good to see old friend Ethel Natera manning the smooth pacing of the events.
Zonta 1, Gullas Hospital
The Zonta Club of Cebu 1 and the Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital are forging their resources and services for their project, Center for Violence Against Women.
Previous to this, a forum on the same thrust was held at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) to discuss Republic Act 9262 before some 1,000 college students and faculty members from various schools.
It was co-sponsored by Zonta 1, USJ-R College of Law and Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Cebu (IBP). The protection of women and children from domestic violence to nurture gender harmony has been the flagship of Zonta 1.
We commend the initiatives of the Zontians, led by president Lucille Colina, Zontian Tess Chan and area director Anita Sanchez. We also thank Fr. Enrico Peter Silab, Fr. Emilio Larlar OAR, dean Jonathan Capanas, Brenda Saliendra, dean Rey Rosada, lawyer Elaine Bathan, Mayet Degamo and Fr. Sepe OAR.
