Colorfully creative-A A +A

LOOKING at couture makeup, it’s common to wonder when in life it would be appropriate to sport green eyelashes, when many women are hesitant to attempt red lipstick.
Couture makeup compliments couture fashion and adds drama and fancy, but is also meant to incite creativity off the runway. While there aren’t too many occasions for blue eyebrows and yellow lips, draw inspiration from dramatic makeup to play around and come up with looks that can work for day-to-day. Top makeup artist Wenwen Zaspa shows how makeup can change someone’s looks just by using brushes and cosmetics. “I played with smokey eyeshadow and colorful makeup to transform Anna from barely there makeup to dramatic looks,” he explains.
To create glittery eyes, it’s best to reach for glitter makeup instead of craft glitter. This fun and high-wattage look will catch the light at any angle, and is perfect for a special occasion. But, there’s no need to wait for a masquerade to wear glitter eye makeup. Layer lightly or liberally, depending on the desired look. Wenwen advises using clear glue for false eyelashes to help the glitter stay in place. Apply with a finger, followed by patting on glitter. Use glitter to intensify a metallic eye or a dramatic crease.
In another look, the aforementioned green lower eyelashes are paired with blue eyeliner. Emphasizing the lower part of the eye adds an extra punch to an eye makeup look, and can make eyes appear bigger. Try playing up lower eyelashes by applying mascara there. Using colored liner on the lower inner rims and lower lash lines is a fun way to make a look pop.
All of these looks on Anna show off beautifully shaped lips. Even if lips are not perfect, achieve the look with lip liner and a lip brush to fix the lip shape. Using these tools can help emphasize the dip in the cupid’s bow, or making the left and right sides more even. These tools should definitely be reached for when using pigmented lipstick, even if it isn’t blue or yellow, to keep color neat and long-lasting.
When placing so much emphasis on two features, in this case the eyes and lips, keep the rest of the face low-key. By contouring but not adding a lot of blush, Wenwen defines the cheeks just enough so that they don’t disappear from the face, and the focus stays on the made-up eyes and lips. Apart from the blue browed look, eyebrows are well-groomed and filled in, but not overly harsh.
For any makeup application, Wenwen’s top piece of advice is to blend very well so that makeup looks clean and stays on longer. Blending helps products go on evenly and seamlessly.
Wenwen’s clients and other people he works with will agree that he is a colorfully-dressed bundle of energy that brings creativity to any room that he’s in, working his magic on everyone from demure brides to couture models. The looks here are just as bright and creative as the artist himself.
Take it as a cue to use cosmetics as an expression of moods and personality. Just have fun with makeup, and be less afraid of experimentation.
