THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has commended Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) for supporting the agency’s various initiatives in Eastern Visayas.
A diploma of service was given to the telco last month in recognition of its assistance that helped ensure the success of PRC’s various projects.
The certificate signed by PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard J. Gordon reads: “Diploma of Service presented to Smart Communications (Cebu) by the Philippine Red Cross for meritorious services rendered in furtherance of Red Cross ideals and purposes.”
For the past 10 years, Smart has been conducting blood donation drives in Cebu with external partners, including the University of the Visayas.
Efforts are not concentrated in Cebu as Smart recently organized a bloodletting activity in Dumaguete City in partnership with the city’s Redemptorist Parish.
Another blood donation drive will be held in Bacolod City in partnership with the VMA Global College.
With these partnerships, Smart will hold bloodletting activities thrice a year in
Dumaguete, and twice a year in Bacolod.
Smart employees have been constantly participating in PRC activities as the telco promotes the culture of volunteerism within the company.
As part of its support to PRC, Smart has also been providing communications support to the various chapters, especially during disaster incidents.
Last month, the telco donated mobile handsets to PRC’s Cebu and Iloilo chapters.
Smart and PRC have been working together for many years now in disaster response efforts, combining their resources to reach out and extend help to affected communities all over the country.
