Espina: Zontians, Kapwa Ko for all seasons-A A +A
Monday, September 2, 2013
NOVEMBER will be a valuable month for the Zonta Club of Cebu 1 and Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko.
The Zontians celebrate their 45th founding anniversary. The first weeks will focus on seminars and interactive forums on advocacies affecting women and children; health-related projects in our day care centers; success stories (this year will feature board/bar top-notchers); micro-financing and self-reliance project in Budlaan; Center for Violence Against Women, with Gullas Hospital; scholarship and educational projects. The highlights will be the Conferment of Woman of Substance whose values jibe with the vision of Zonta; the Amelia Earhart award; the special dinner musicale called Legends of Men, sequel to Women Legends staged in2007. At the helm of preparations are Area 17 director Z Anita Sanchez and Zonta 1 president Lucille Colina.
For more than two decades, Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko, has been helping children with cancer and succeeded in giving many a second chance in life. For November, the theme is “Ipadayon ang Pag-pangga” and the regular health-related activities; re-launch of Kapwa’s Piggy Bank, plus, the “Day with the Champions” for our self-less volunteers as well as an appreciation dinner for Kapwa’s benefactors and sponsors.
20 years of Knapsack
Congratulations to the Knapsack Dancers led by multi-talented Cinbeth Orellano on their 20th anniversary. I saw how this group developed from raw to multi-talented dancers and choreographers who are now in demand in many events, like the Zonta 1, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and American Chamber of Commerce. They are the official dance group of ABS-CBN. Better years ahead and carry on!
