Swan Lake is Russian composer, Tchaikovsky’s first ballet in 1876 and is consideredas one of the greatest classical ballets of all time. Its romance and ethereal beauty has mesmerized ballet as well as non-ballet audiences for more than a century.
Here’s a brief summary of Swan Lake for those who are first-time viewers.
It’s about Princess Odette who, by the spell of an evil sorcerer, turns into a swan at daytime, and at night is allowed to be a human again The spell can only be broken if a virgin prince swears eternal fidelity to her. Prince Siegfried, who sees the princess while hunting, falls madly in love with her.
However, through a spell by the sorcerer, he accidentally proposes to another woman at a party, believing that she is really Princess Odette.
Meantime, the princess threatens to kill herself and would have thrown herself into the lake. But Prince Siegfried fought the evil sorcerer and tore off one of his wings, thus destroying his powers. Prince Siegfried then broke the spell of the swan, and married Princess Odette.
Each year artistic directors Pacana and Aaron prepare the company for the culmination of lessons and workshops, with summer performances and the staging of a grand ballet, Pacana proudly Pasil-born became an international danseur at age 17, and said he will continue to teach Cebuano students as this is his contribution to this art form.
