Book drive for kids re-launched-A A +A
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
QUOTA International of Metro Cebu (QIMC), a service organization for the hearing-impaired and disadvantaged women and children, recently launched its book drive project, “Inspire a Child: Share a Book -Part 2” to promote literacy among the special needs children in Cebu City.
One of the visions of QIMC is to rehabilitate schools that cater to children with disabilities, but are financially challenged to provide for the necessities that every school needs.
This project was first launched in September 2010 and re-launched this year to advocate the beauty and importance of reading across all walks of life, and its relevance to the improvement in learning. especially in children with disabilities.
Recent studies have shown that early intervention and instruction of these children in reading by well-trained teachers can improve their reading skills to that of an average child. In line with this, Quota International of Metro Cebu is collecting gently used or new books for children 12 years of age and below, to be handed over to the Special Education Centers in seven public schools in Cebu City, namely Bulacao Community SPED Center, Barrio Luz SPED Center, Don Vicente Rama SPED Center, Zapatera SPED Center, San Nicolas SPED Center, Labangon SPED Center and Pardo SPED Center.
This year’s book drive was launched online last September 16, 2013.
One can help make a difference in the life of a child with disability by donating gently used or new books. Please bring the books to Seares-del Rosario Mangubat, Seares Law Firm (beside Lighthouse Restaurant), Mango Park Hotel Compound, Gen. Maxilom Ave., Cebu City (tel. no. 032-418-0887) or F.F.
