IF WE have to trace the culinary history of restaurateur/philanthropist Amparito Llamas-Lhuillier, we have to start at the beginning, and that’s in the late 80s and early 90s when Amparito’s Continental Cuisine opened along Mango Ave.
The sumptuous cuisine served impeccably in an atmosphere of style and elan attracted its discriminating clientele who came back for more and brought friends. Word certainly got around!
Fast forward to 2013 when businessman/sportsman hubby Michael asked her to manage the newly renovated and refurbished former Pino Native Restaurant along Wilson St. Lahug.
Of course, Amparito, who loves challenges, accepted. Casa Amparito was born!
Thus she was back to one of her loves: gastronomy! But she also had other loves. “I like helping people,” enthused Amparito so went ahead and hired graduates/scholars of her pet advocacy the Amparito Llamas-Lhuillier Educational Foundation. Yes, the lady is also an educator.
The Casa Amparito team is made up of culinary professionals too like general manager, Marina Codina, who’s Switzerland and London-trained in hotel and restaurant management.
On the other hand, chef Dino Guingona is an “import’ from Manila, having worked at Brasserie Boheme, owned by Amparito’s son, Charles. Armed with a culinary arts degree from the California Culinary Academy, he was later connected with the Ritz Carlton Hotel in San Francisco and at the White House Hotel in the UK Sept. 23 was not only the birth of the restaurant but also the birth anniversary of the lady herself, the sophisticated Amparito, an icon of glamour and golden-heartedness, inside and out. As she attended to her hundreds of guests in a canary yellow long-sleeved blouse, and printed floor-length skirt, she was indeed a vision of style. She greeted friends from the Chaine des Rotisseurs, Amigos de Espana, members of the Consular Corps of Cebu, etc. Toasts of success to this double celebration!
