Autumn indulge-A A +A

THEY say balance is key. Light should be balanced with dark. Bold hues should be done in small amounts. One ring should be enough with a bracelet. But sometimes, there’s the desire to deviate from the rules and the should be’s. There’s nothing wrong with being over-the-top every once in a while, at least in curating fashion and beauty.
“Everyone is invited to a dinner of supreme decadence, where no taste is too extravagant and no behavior beyond limits” at the M.A.C Cosmetics Indulge Collection (available at Rustan’s, Ayala Center Cebu). This current release features jewel tones and gilded metallics that up the indulgence factor of the season’s clothes in rich fabrics and hues. Eyeshadows and liners are moody in gold, bronze and black, ready for the most daring eye looks. Lip color is equally bold in true red or plum satins, or in gold and champagne shimmer.
These luxurious cosmetics inspire clothes and accessories that are equally opulent, if not more so. Dare to step a little bit out of the fashion comfort zone with pieces and styling tips that are not safe, but so satisfying.
Cotton is great for summer, but autumn calls for fancier fabrics. Bring out the sequins, silks and brocades in tailored shapes. These don’t need to be restricted to evening, and can be worn during the day with jeans or even shorts.
Don’t have items in those fabrics? Clothes in lighter materials can still look decadent in rich colors, especially when worn with the right embellishments.
Rich colors don’t necessarily mean deep, dark tones. Colors can be bright, almost neon. Choose pieces that have a more classic feel, and mix them with gold and jewels. Otherwise, the look may channel the sporty or 80s trends.
Can’t decide which gorgeous necklace to wear? Pile them on. Put together necklaces in
different lengths so that the design of each one can be admired and sits nicely against the body, not all jumbled up. To try wearing lots of rings, consider the size of your hands. If fingers are small or short, go for smaller ones with bright stones instead of very large cocktail rings. Be unafraid to don baubles on ears, neck, wrists and fingers. But pick pieces whose metals or themes somehow complement, to avoid looking like Christmas décor gone wrong.
Don’t neglect hair accessories, as well. Turbans are very fashionable, and can be worn to appear luxe or more bohemian. If a little hesitant with the full-on shape that covers the whole head, there are also headband turbans available. For something simpler to adorn the hair, try thin, embellished headbands, or even bobby-pin a brooch on an updo.
It’s easy to add just a few things to the wardrobe to get this opulent but modern style, or simply try a different way of putting together pieces that are already in the closet. With such beautiful looks, it’s hard to pick just one. Go ahead, be a little lavish, and add some luxury to everyday fashion. (All fotos from M.A.C Cosmetics)
