Wila celebrates 22 years-A A +A

THE Women in Literary Arts-Cebu Inc. (Wila) recently celebrated its 22nd anniversary at Harolds Hotel.
Members of the only existing women creative writers group in the country read poems around the theme, “Tipping Point.”
Reading their original poems were Erma Cuizon, Kaira Zoe Alburo-Cañete, Charmaine Carreon, Jona Bering, Jeneth Borlasa, Cindy Velasquez, Michelle Johanna Lim and Gloria Sommers.
They were joined by guest readers Bobby Amor and Msgr. Agustin Ancajas.
Haidee Palapar, in her closing remarks, shared that the group is at a “tipping point” of sorts, noting the presence of three generations of writers in the group’s membership.
Other highlights of the celebration are:
l launching of Simeon Dumdum Jr.’s latest collection of poetry, To the Evening Star;
l installation of a new set of officers for 2013-2015, namely, Haidee Palapar, chair; Jeneth Borlasa, vice chair; Gloria Sommers, secretary; Ma. Milagros T. Dumdum, treasurer; Annabelle Tan-Amor, auditor; and Erma Cuizon, P.R.O.
l recognition of members who won in the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature: Lilia Tio, third place for Cebuano short story in 2008; Charmaine Carreon, second place for English poetry in 2012; and Jona Bering, first place for Cebuano short story for this year.
