ONGOING at the second level of Ayala Center Cebu is the Photo Gallery organized by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (Pogs), Cebu chapter, as part of the activities for the celebration of World Menopause Day on Oct. 19. The photo exhibit features 12 mature women who are active in their line of work or who continue to make their mark in the community at this stage in their lives. The ladies behind the project are Dr. Ma. Virginia Abalos, regional director of Pogs, Region 7; Dr. Ma. Dolores Perez, president of Pogs, Cebu chapter, and creative director Dr. Ellen Chavez. They sought the help of photography experts Erwin Lim, Dan Ong and Dwight Lu of the Cebu City Images Camera Club (headed by president Marmie Wistehuff); and asked make-up artist Wenwen Zaspa and hair dresser Aries Baguio to wave their magic wand on the models.
The 12 ladies are Annie Aboitiz, Dr. Milagros Chan, Archt. Tessie Javier, Amparito Lhuillier, Teresin Mendezona, Janice Minor, Nelia Neri, Meanne Solomon, Dr. Mila Tolentino, Julita Urbina, Delia Villacastin and Mariquita Yeung.
World Menopause Day on Oct. 19 will start with aerobics and zumba sessions at 6:30 a.m. (registration is from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m.) at the Ayala Terraces, followed by breakfast and booth visits with bone densitometry and blood tests thrown in.
Then at 9 a.m., there is a discussion till on "Woman: the Strength, the Inspiration, the Light of My Life" with a panel of experts which include Dr. Ditas Decena (incoming Pogs national pres.), cardiologist Dr. Maricar Quevedo and lawyer Amay Ong-Vaño.
The 12 ladies in the photo exhibit will be presented by 11 a.m. and the celebration will end with dancing and a raffle draw.
An evening in Paris was the theme of the 18th birthday celebration of Nivea Noreen Ann Cambal held at the Ocean Pavilion of Shangri-La's Mactan Resort. In keeping with the Paris setting, doting parents Rodrigo Sr. and Fely commissioned a birthday cake that had the legendary Eiffel Tower sitting on it. Debutante Nivea is a hotel and restaurant management student at the University of San Carlos.
The 6th Dancesport sa Sugbu and the Queen City Open Dancesport Championship (the only dancesport competition held outside Metro Manila) unfolded at the Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel with about 500 athletes from all over the country in attendance.
Present at the affair were Mayor Mike Rama, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Ricardo P. Garcia, PSC Commissioner Luis Gomez, Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) chairman Edward Hayco, Councilor Richard Osmeña and Dancesport Council of the Philippines (DSCPI) president Becky Garcia.
