Utzurrum: Zonta Cebu 2, stars of the night-A A +A
Wednesday, October 16, 2013
WHEN they gazed at the Hong Kong harbor at twilight, a myriad lights twinkled back at them, like stars in the night.
For this was the venue for the 17th District Conference of District 17 of Zonta International, at the Mira Hotel (formerly Miramar) in Kowloon. Seventy-one clubs from District 17, coming from five countries, namely, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia, met in a spirit of friendship and camaraderie, but on a more serious vein, tackling issues on violence against women and children, worldwide.
With the Hong Kong clubs as hosts, no stone was left unturned to make the event well organized in terms of entertainment, food, etc. The three workshops had effective speakers and facilitators.
Day 1 had the parade of banners and colors, carried by area directors and club presidents, respectively. Zonta International president’s, representative, Anita Schnetzer-Spranger, carried the ZI banner, while district governor (DG) Winnie Teoh, the District 17 banner.
The most awaited portion was the closing night ceremonies where our very own, Zonta Club of Cebu 2 dominated the rewards in the entire area 3 and even the whole of
District 17! These were:
• Most Outstanding Zonta Difference Service award – First place
• Zonta Difference Award for Outstanding Achievement in Organizing a new Z club
• Most Outstanding Zonta Difference club website award – Second place
• Most Outstanding Zonta Difference Achievement Award – Second place
Of the 63 clubs represented that night, proudest were the 14 members of the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 who shone like the myriad stars on the Hong Kong harbor. Star light, star bright, tou’re the brightest star, Zonta 2!
As if to add to the prestige of being a Zontian, the Cebu Provincial Board, in its regular session last Sept. 16, declared the month of November of every year, as Zonta Month in the province of Cebu.
The resolution, authored by Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, recognizes the Zonta Clubs of Cebu 1 and 2, as an organization that works to improve the legal, economic, professional, health and educational status of women, through service and advocacy, and to advance understanding, peace and goodwill through a world fellowship of executives in business and the professions. Congratulations, Zonta! May your tribe increase.
