Pink a Little, or a Lot-A A +A
Thursday, October 17, 2013
THE moment the calendar flipped to Oct. 1, pink could be seen everywhere from mall events, store displays and social media.
The color is appropriate any time of the year, but Pink October campaigns for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Here are a few ways to wear a little or a lot of pink to support the cause, or if just looking for ideas on how to wear this color any time of the year.
Accessories are an easy way to put on some pink. Aside from jewelry, try a pink scarf, watch, bag or shoes to add a pop of color to an outfit.
For red lipstick loyalists, now is as good a time as any to switch things up a little. Red and vampy looks are popular right now, but if that trend isn’t for you, pink is a less severe way of dressing up lips. Avoid a very pale blue-based pink, which can be difficult to pull off.
To update the usual mani, try the new stick-on nail art or do an accent nail.
Pink dresses don’t just belong on little girls. Celebrities and fashionistas love donning pink dresses, especially in something bright or fuchsia, for a grown-up look.
As with any boldly colored dress, pick one in a simple and flattering shape, so that it’s not trying too hard, nor too Barbie (no offense to her).
Colored jeans are everywhere right now, whether in softer pastel shades or brighter look-at-me ones. These are just as versatile as denim, and can be worn with white, florals or polka dots. But if these looks are too saccharine for one’s taste, pair pink jeans with simple or unisex tops like a striped or graphic tee. Chambray shirts worn with colored jeans are also popular.
The faded denim adds a little edge to such a sweet hue. For a more fashion-forward ensemble, try the color-blocking trend a la Sarah Jessica Parker (SJP) and wear pink pants with a bright top in purple, yellow, red, orange, blue or green.
As the cliche goes, real men wear pink. Pink jeans may be too much for most straight guys, but men of any gender orientation can look good with a pink polo shirt, shorts or shoes.
