80 reasons to celebrate-A A +A

ST. THERESA'S College (STC) had 80 reasons to celebrate this year—their eight decade of existence! Indeed, the years have been kind to this revered institution of learning for women. It has produced empowered women, professional, successful, committed women of substance who have pledged love and loyalty to their Alma Mater.
Oh! If only patron saint St. Teresa of Avila and Mother Foundress Louise de Meester could see us now!
Love, loyalty, laughter and excitement were indeed ringing across the campus and through the halls, when jubilarian classes lorded it over the area with their photo sessions (official and otherwise), sobering up when Holy Mass was officiated by Fr. Ernesto Javier S.J.
Then the fun abruptly took a break and serious business took over: the ritzy and colorful dance presentations which appropriately focused on Cebu’s municipal fiestas with a sprinkling of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Welcome them as they come marching in: Diamond (60 years) high school (HS) 1953 in their graceful Carcar Festival – Kabkaban; Emerald (55 years) HS 1958 doing the Hari Raya Puasa, shades of Muslim Mindanao! Loved their colorful fans!
The Panagbenga Festival of Flowers of Baguio was the choice of the Golden Girls (50 years) HS class 1963, while the Sapphires (45 years) HS class 1968, settled for the stunningly colorful fiesta dance of Liloan.
HS class 1973 celebrating Ruby Red (40 years) had the biggest number of participants as they did their delicate steps, showing the artistry of Danao City in a dance called Karansa.
Bacolod City’s famous Masskara Festival had an arresting costume featuring ruffles at the neckline and the hemline, for which Coral class HS 1978 was commended. From Bacolod, we come to neighboring city, Iloilo, which celebrates the Dinagyang fiesta every January. Their dance was executed by the Pearl jubilarians of HS class 1983.
Of course, the culminating number was overpowering, as the dominating Silver class of 1988, performed our very own Sinulog, in all its grace and grandeur. The Sinulog Festival Queen was outstanding!
Kudos to the artistic director who conceptualized the entire show—Delia Aliño-Villacastin, who was also collecting handshakes for still another 80th anniversary romantic musical comedy in Cebuano—the unforgettable zarzuela, Dalagan Bukid.
Happy anniversary and glorious homecoming, Theresians!
