Piece of paradise-A A +A

IT'S QUITE a long way, about an hour and a half ride from Cebu City. But if you are in search of a totally different kind of experience, like being served authentic home-cooked German, Continental, or Italian dishes amidst lush greens and flora, you will not regret taking the trip.
For in the quiet town of Sogod, 57 kilometers north of Cebu, you will find a charming country house that can offer you just that, and more. This place is home to one of the town’s must-stop destinations, Borussia German Restaurant and Bakery.
The Master of the Kitchen is a German, Jurgen Mannchen, and the Mistress of the House is a Cebuana, Chuchi Villa. Together, for the past 14 years, the couple has transformed this place into what Chuchi Mannchen describes as a “foretaste of paradise.” And who will argue with her? All over the property (which is big enough to be a seaside resort), the Mannchens have covered it with Bermuda grass and planted a variety of shade trees, palms, yucca, bougainvillas, gumamelas, yellow and white bells, sunflowers, morning glories, and in every nook and cranny, an assortment of bushy species. The winding driveway is lined with colorful suntans and dwarf coconut trees.
The beauty and convivial atmosphere of this place is rivaled only by the restaurant’s fine cuisine. Jurgen has kept his kitchen alive with his robust culinary expertise. A master baker in Germany since he was 14 years old, Jurgen is also a very good cook which is the reason why the restaurant has gained a distinguished roster of patrons and visitors over the years.
His bread and pastries are baked only with the finest flour from Germany. And although most of the ingredients he uses are imported, the couple has ample backyard produce of vegetables, ducks, chickens, and eggs so that a diner can taste the freshness of the food served before him. But, surprise! The price list in the menu is unexpectedly very delightful as the dishes themselves.
“We are really so blessed for having a place like this, so we feel we have to share this to everyone and give them a piece of this paradise by serving them good food, delicious cakes, healthy bread and pastries. Most of all, we want our customers to really enjoy everything we have to offer here in Borussia,” Chuchi said.
