STILL being talked about is the dinner musicale of Zonta Club of Cebu 1 dubbed Legends of Men last Nov. 25. It was a fund-raising affair for the victims of typhoon Yolanda and for the Zonta projects, as well as a celebration of its 45th founding anniversary.
Special guest of the evening was Zonta District 17 international governor Winnie Teoh who came all the way from Hong Kong.
Frontliners were Zonta 1 president Lucille Colina, area director Anita Sanchez, past presidents (PP) Flor Streegan and Stella Bernabe who came onstage for the conferment of the Woman of Substance award to Maria Cristina C. Aboitiz, who is very much involved in the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation and other humanitarian activities in the community.
But of course the woman of the hour was none other than Zonta PP Mila Espina who conceptualized, scripted and directed "Legends of Men." The presentation was a sequel to "Women Legends" (also a brainchild of Mila) which was staged in 2007 as a fundraising for Zonta projects.
SM City Cebu celebrated its 20th year with the theme "Celebrating 20 & Helping To Rebuild Communities." Tenants and guests were treated to an evening of Broadway music dished out by theater and stage singers Jenine Desiderio, Cris Villonco and Robert Seña. The program included an appeal for support in the fund drive for the rebuilding project of the SM Group of Companies which has committed to build 1000 houses in areas in the Visayas region devastated by typhoon Yolanda.
Over in Bangkok, the Rotary Club Don Muang handed over its donation for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda to co-Rotarian Elma Garcia Muangkroot who is a Cebuana. The amount was used for relief and rehabilitation through Sun.Star Cebu's JP Garcia Foundation and the University of Cebu's relief operations.
A lovely place for star gazing and shooting the breeze this chilly season is The Blu Bar at the Marco Polo PLaza. It was there where Megaworld PR whiz Harold Geronimo and media relations officer Joba Botana invited a few media friends for an early Christmas dinner. Harold happily shared that the Megaworld group will have some important announcements to make for 2014.
Also enjoying the Blu Bar ambience was Chicago-based Ria Neri who came for an extended vacation after an absence of almost two decades. She is making the most of her two-month stay by going places: Cagayan de Oro (her birthplace), Palawan and Boracay. She also made a side trip to Vietnam. However, Christmas will find her back in Chicago where loving parents, Manny and Nenette await her.
It was a two-in-one celebration for Rudy and Tosing Perez when they invited friends over for an intimate dinner at their new home in Acacia Lane near Banawa. The occasion was a housewarming as well as a birthday party for Rudy. Their cozy place is perfect for the couple who are now "empty nesters."
