Christmas always calls for spending time with loved ones. What better way to set the holiday ambience than being in a beautifully decorated home, themed for the holidays?
A few homeowners around the city share how they decided to dress up their houses for the most wonderful time of the year.
Joji collaborates with an interior designer every year to assist her with holiday décor. Some of the décorations are brought out from storage from year to year, but this year she added red, blue and green blinking lights to add a bit more color to her red and gold motif. Sticking to a color motif makes it easier to combine decorating pieces that are already at home, rather than buying lots of different colors that may appear too busy when put together.
Most of the items in Joji’s home were sourced from a local department store, including her lovely table setup with a complete set of cutlery and drinking goblets.
There’s no need to ship decorative items from overseas, as there’s already a wide selection here. It’s just a matter of putting them together elegantly.
George combines lights and fun elements to bring holiday cheer to his home. Candy canes, still lights and blinking lights with different speeds and colors look fun and festive. To add some cute touches, a few tiny Santa Clauses hang from parachutes on the porch, and a light-up snowman stands guard beside the front door.
Miriam’s home looks lovely all year round, but she makes a special effort for Christmas so that her family and friends can enjoy the house. Outside, there are colorful lights all over the lawn, and Christmas fairies and clear ornaments add detail to the green holly framing the front door.
Inside the house, the Christmas tree is done in white and silver, with additional accents on the walls. The décor on the staircase calls attention to the row of family photos. She has her own charming miniature Christmas village on a tableset with ‘snow’ and selected every piece herself. Adults and children alike will delight in the village that lights up, and elements in some of the buildings even move and make sounds.
Jacqueline’s décor is all over the home, from the front door and outside windows to the living room, dining area and nooks and crannies around the house. There are Christmas dolls lining the front entryway, wooden dolls and nativity scenes on differently sized tables, and red and gold decorative balls hanging from different parts of the ceiling.
Decorating different areas at varying eye levels shows off something at every glance without being overwhelming.
