Utzurrum: Of lighted trees and landscaped islands-A A +A
Wednesday, December 18, 2013
THE traditional lighting of the “Tree of Hope” at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu signifies not only the advent of the festive season, but more importantly to mark as well the birth of Jesus Christ, who is the reason for the season.
With Christmas approaching, can sharing and giving be far behind?
From Nov. 30 to Jan. 5, 2014, the hotel will accept Tree of Hope donations through the Kapuso Foundation of GMA 7. Your donation of P200 per Christmas ball will assist the foundation’s relief operations for those families affected by the recent calamities in the Visayas region. Write them a personal note, on a card attached to your Christmas ball, and hang it on the Tree of Hope yourself.
The theme of this year’s tree lighting is the “Magic of Christmas,” with special focus on fairy tale princesses, fleshed out through ballet scenes by the Cebu Centre for Dance.
To complete the festive spirit, Maricris Garcia of GMA serenaded the guests in partnership with the Kapuso Foundation. And guess made an appearance? Mr. and Mrs. Claus decked in all their Christmas finery, posed with the eager kiddos for a souvenir shot!
Incidentally, the hotel has a Christmas surprise room promo, with a portion of the revenue going to the Tree of Hope project. For P 4,500, the promo includes a deluxe mountain-view room, breakfast at Cafe Marco, a complimentary box of Christmas ensaimadas and pizza from El Viento Pool bar and restaurant, among other perks!
Let the season be a chance for cheerful giving and spell real magic for many of those in need at this time!
Another worthwhile project was done by the Cebu Garden Club in partnership with the Parks and Playgrounds Commission of the Cebu City government. It was the inauguration and turnover of the tastefully landscaped center island at Benedicto St., North Reclamation Area.
The Cebu Garden Club headed by its hyperactive and dedicated president, Linda To, led the bevy of green-thumbed ladies during the occasion, while the city government was represented by Vice Mayor Edgar Labella and Councilor Nestor Archival.
It is this kind of dedication and commitment by the Garden clubbers that will start the ball rolling for a greener and more livable Cebu!
